Idrisa A. Hamid a native of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania holds a Master’s of Science in Global & International Education from Drexel University and her Bachelor of Business Administration from Temple University and looks forward to obtaining her doctoral candidacy in Organizational Leadership. Ms. Hamid has thirty-five years of dance experience in ballet, modern, jazz, contemporary and African dance techniques. She was trained under the direction of Mrs. Dorothea, LaDiva Davis, Scott Shultz, Karen Pendergrass, Patricia Scott Hobbs, Benjamin Harkarvy, Robert Weiss, Iantha L. Tucker, Mrs. Patterson, Ms. Oyin, the late Arthur Hall, John E. Allen, Craig “Spider” Moore, E. Leon Evans II, and Elmer “Skeets” Ball just to name a few. Ms. Hamid has performed in numerous roles with Pennsylvania Ballet, Philadanco, Creative and Performing Arts High School, Freedom Theatre, and Morgan State Dance Ensemble. Her love for teaching began with the opening of her own dance school, as Artistic Director with her Mother in 1992 in Philadelphia called DanSteps Studio. For the past seventeen years Ms. Hamid taught at Wissahickon Dance Academy in Philadelphia and has choreographed over 30+ performances from her repertoire.
Ms. Hamid now resides in Houston, Texas were she teaches at numerous schools in Houston and the surrounding areas. She currently teaches three classes plus technique workshops at Designed 2 Dance in ballet and jazz for pre-professional, Intermediate, and primary levels. Additionally, Ms. Hamid teaches beginner classes in ballet and jazz at The Movement Lab. In previous independent contracting Ms. Hamid taught four classes in ballet and jazz at Houston Metropolitan Dance Center and taught six classes comprised of 100 students ranging from beginner to professional advanced levels at Royal Academy of Fine Arts located in Clear Lake. Ms. Hamid has been requested in Houston to serve as an accomplished judge for Amy Blake’s dance company placement auditions in Friendswood and as a competition judge at Shearn Elementary Multicultural Music and Dance Awards Ceremony.
Ms. Hamid works for the Houston Independent School District, Senior Manager of Onboarding and Organizational Development department of Talent Acquisition, Human Resources. Notably, Ms. Hamid personally dedicates her time to volunteering in the Houston community for two organizations- Dress for Success, as a personal shopper to promote the economic independence of disadvantaged women by suiting them with professional attire and Aseracare Hospice, as a patient companion providing comfort and care to terminally ill patients and their families during their final stages of life.
Ms. Hamid has one son, Nafiz who is an Audio Engineer and the love of her life.
